Whether you’re setting up a new office or you want to update an existing telecommunications system in Charlotte, you need a structured cabling system that will deliver the clear communication and data speed that is crucial in today’s telecommunication infrastructure. That’s where the expert team at Strategic Connections can help! We will work with you at every level, from design to implementation to ensure you get the ideal cabling that works both with your building design and your telecommunication needs.

What Is Structured Cabling?

Structured cabling refers to the massive system of cables and the corresponding components and hardware necessary for telecommunications in large organizations such as apartment buildings, schools, and businesses. This includes wired and wireless internet connectivity and phone systems.

Unlike simple cable setups for homes or small businesses, structured cabling must fall under specific guidelines set by the Telecommunications Industry of America and American National Standards Institute called ANSI/TIA-568. These guidelines ensure consistent quality and standardization across the design, implementation, and maintenance of these complex networks.

Structured cabling must also contain six specific subsystems:

  • Entrance facilities are the specific point where the outside service network (telephone company, internet service provider) connects to the organization or building’s wiring.
  • Equipment rooms are the main location for a building or organization’s routers, servers, and large telecommunications equipment. This can also house the entrance facility.
  • Backbone cabling the main information channel which connects all the telecommunications to the equipment room and connects separate buildings to the network in a campus setup.
  • Horizontal cabling is the wiring that extends from the telecommunication rooms to the individual work areas.
  • Telecommunications enclosures are the locations in which the backbone cabling and horizontal cabling connect.
  • Work-area components connect user equipment, such as phones and computers to the horizontal cabling network.
